"Magic Wings" by Caridad Velasco donated to the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House

PALM COAST – When you meet Caridad Velasco, you are swept by “magic wings” into her heart and warm spirit.  An artist of truly remarkable abilities, Caridad was one of the artists featured at this spring’s Artists at the Gardens event at the Hammock Gardens Nursery, which benefited the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House.  In honor of her husband’s late wife, Caridad graciously chose to donate 100% of her proceeds, which totaled to more than $1,000, and promised the hospice staff that they would receive one of her pieces to hang in the Hospice House.

On Tuesday, April 28, her promise was fulfilled.  Caridad delivered the finished piece, “Magic Wings,” which will be hung in the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House atrium.  With a smile, Caridad said the piece took eight hours each day for four weeks to complete. She added that she did not have a chance to cook much during that time – a reference to the joke her husband made at the fundraiser when she originally promised the Hospice House a piece of her artwork.  "When she creates – she doesn’t cook,” Dr. Manuel Velasco said with a chuckle. “I’ll waste away while she does this for you.”
