Florida Hospital HospiceCare Leadership Team

Florida Hospital HospiceCare Administrative Director
We at HospiceCare are happy to report that your efforts have helped us spread the word about the value of hospice care and the very special care provided by the HospiceCare staff. Thank you!
Although there has been a 28% increase in admissions to our service in 2007, many of those who came to us for care were on service for less than seven (7) days. Being with us such a short time limited the benefits that they and their families received.
Too many facing life limiting illnesses still remain unaware of the value of hospice care or that they can access care and support much earlier than at the final stages of their illness. Delaying hospice care can cause the stress on the loved ones, and the individual, to be greater than they needed to be.
Why wait?
One of the barriers to earlier hospice care still remains: many families believe that their physician has to be the one to recommend hospice care. That is not the case. Often, your physician is waiting to hear from you that hospice care is something you and your family want. It is important to discuss “hospice care as a goal” with your physician early in the care cycle or to ask if hospice care is appropriate when the discussion of “options” occurs.
Which hospice should I choose?
There are currently four (4) hospice organizations in Volusia and Flagler Counties - soon to be five (5). Florida Hospital HospiceCare is the ONLY hospice associated with Florida Hospital; the ONLY faith based hospice and the ONLY hospice in the area to have The Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission certifies health care organizations by way of a rigorous certification process.
I am proud to be associated with HospiceCare and offer you my assurance that our goal is to provide you and your loved ones with quality comfort care when the time is right.
Our Medical Directors work to insure that each care plan is properly designed and implemented to provide hospice care appropriate to the needs of each individual. Our Team of Medical Directors: Dr. John Chewning, Associate Medical Director, treating HospiceCare patients in the Volusia County area, Dr. John Steely and Dr. Symeonides, Associate Medical Directors in the Flagler County community, care for patients in their homes as well as those in our inpatient units at Oceanside and the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House.
